Community Projects

The WCGC contributes to a variety of community projects and stimulates the love of gardening, conserves our resources, and helps to improve the quality of our environment. As part of the Garden Club of America, we actively support pro-environmental policies through education and political action.

Chester County Hospital Courtyard

WCGC cares for the hospital courtyard.
The club also decorates the hospital's Christmas tree.

Brandywine Red Clay Alliance

Founded in 1945, the BRCA organization is focused on educating the public about protecting the environment. Approximately 12,000 students from Pennsylvania and Delaware are taught annually in their classrooms or at the Alliance’s locations about how to be good stewards of their natural heritage. Our club installed and cares for the gardens at the Myrick Center headquarters. These gardens are primarily planted with plants native to our area and include labels with both the plants’ common and Latin names.

Oaklands Cemetery

Founded in 1854 in West Goshen Township, the historic Oaklands Cemetery is located on 26 acres of forested beauty. There are many famous people buried here including the composer Samuel Barber and USMC General Smedley Darlington Butler who was a double recipient of the Medal of Honor. The WCGC cares for the flower beds next to the massive stone entry gates in addition to the trees and shrubs on the left of the drive. It is our goal for visitors to have a pleasing experience as they enter the cemetery.

West Chester Library

The club decorates the library annually for the winter holidays.

Pat King Memorial Pollinator Garden

East Goshen Park is home to this pollinator garden collaboration with the East Goshen Township Department of Public Works to conserve the monarch butterfly migration and other local fauna.
